Summary of the Exide Residential Cleanup Work Plan

- Clean up residential properties with an avg. soil lead concentration > 650 mg/kg.
- Approximately 150 residential properties will require soil cleanup.
- Properties with children 6 years old and younger will be cleaned up first.
- Cleanup will begin spring 2008 and may take up to three years to complete.
- Property owners will receive a consent form that must be signed and return to Exide or its contractor before a soil cleanup is scheduled.
- Property owners will have the option to accept or decline the soil cleanup.
- Prior to the soil cleanup, a preliminary meeting will be conducted between the property owners and Exide’s contractors to discuss the cleanup process.
- The majority of the residential cleanups will consist of soil excavation, confirmatory sampling, backfilling with clean soil and property restoration.
- Alternative cleanup methods such as soil capping and soil tilling may be implemented.
- Exide will comply with all PADEP regulations governing the preparation, transportation, and disposal of lead-contaminated soil generated during the residential cleanups.
- EPA contractor will provide oversight during the residential cleanups.
- Exide will sample additional properties to confirm the extent of the Study Area.
- Exide will attempt to sample previously inaccessible properties.
