EPA is currently reviewing the existing environmental information to determine if further investigation and/or corrective action will be required at the site. EPA will first focus on the health and groundwater impacts, if any, presented by the facility. Once EPA completes this review process, an environmental indicator determination will be prepared and posted to this website.
Beginning in 1979, Betz Laboratories (Betz) produced specialty chemicals in Langhorne, PA. The facility produced several hundred types of liquid polymers and blended products in batch operations from dry and liquid materials that were formulated to meet customer-specific applications. Betz ceased operations in 2004 and the facility is currently used as a warehouse by National Refrigeration Products.
Betz removed several ASTs and UST under PADEP oversight. At one UST location, evidence of a release resulted in a groundwater monitoring system to be constructed in 1993. Monitoring for TPH and BETX continued until 1994. TPH was found occasionally at levels below any potential threat. PADEP approved the discontinuation of the monitoring system in December 1994.
