Remedial Action Plans (RAPs)
Lake Erie provides drinking
water to over 11 million people. Four rivers in Ohio that flow into Lake
Erie have been identified as being so polluted that they have become Areas
of Concern (AOC). Local groups have formed in these areas to develop Remedial
Action Plans (RAPs)
to
help clean up the pollution. The local groups are a partnership of governmental
agencies, industries, and concerned citizens.

Mahoning River Consortium (MRC)
RAP-like organizations have formed in other Ohio watersheds. One such watershed group is the Mahoning River Consortium (MRC). The MRC was formed in 1995 and is working with federal, state and local authorities, as well as citizen groups to clean up and promote the river. The basin drains approximately 1,073 square miles in Ohio before entering Pennsylvania and joining with the Shenango to form the Beaver River, a tributary of the Ohio River.
