EPA awarded the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) a $7,000 grant to spearhead a public outreach effort to educate the Greater Springfield, MA public on the value of addressing combined sewer overflow systems in the Connecticut River Watershed. This grant was originally awarded in 2001 and has been extended to June of 2003.

EPA ORD awarded MADEP a $50,000 grant to develop a bacteria monitoring plan in the Connecticut River and tributaries, with Greater Springfield as the focus area.

Nitrogen Monitoring and Modeling Project
EPA ORD augmented an existing cooperative agreement with New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) by $25,000 to bring the total award to $225,000. This award is for coordination of the Connecticut River Nitrogen Monitoring and Modeling Project, to support implementation of the Long Island Sound TMDL for nitrogen.
