Tri-state Connecticut River Project Selected by EPA for Watershed Initiative
Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs)
EPA awarded the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) a $7,000
grant to spearhead a public outreach effort to educate the Greater
Springfield, MA public on the value of addressing combined sewer
overflow systems in the Connecticut River Watershed. This grant
was originally awarded in 2001 and has been extended to June of
2003.
Bacteria Monitoring
EPA ORD awarded MADEP a $50,000 grant to develop a bacteria monitoring
plan in the Connecticut River and tributaries, with Greater Springfield
as the focus area.
Nitrogen Monitoring and Modeling Project
EPA ORD augmented an existing cooperative agreement with New England
Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) by $25,000
to bring the total award to $225,000. This award is for coordination
of the Connecticut River Nitrogen Monitoring and Modeling Project,
to support implementation of the Long Island Sound TMDL for nitrogen.
The augmentation will fund the development and implementation of
a plan for water quality sampling and analysis and to focus modeling
priorities and efforts.
