Federal Facility Environmental Profiles
EPA's
Sector Facility Indexing Project brings together environmental
and other information from a number of data systems to produce facility-level
profiles for five industry sectors and a subset of major Federal facilities.
These profiles include compliance and inspection history, chemical
releases and spills, demographics of the surrounding population and
production. To be included in this project, federal facilities
must be classified as a "major" facility under at least
two of the following three statutes: the Clean Air Act, the Clean
Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. They
also must have been in operation during calendar year 1998, and not
scheduled to close by December 2001 under the Base Realignment And
Closure Act. Several options are available to query on-line
and download the data compiled for Federal Facilities.
EPA's
Federal Facility Restoration and Reuse Office has created
a website that provides in-depth looks at the cleanup efforts being
undertaken at federal facilities that are either on the National Priorities
List or are military bases that are selected for realignment or closure
under the Base Closure and Realignment Acts of 1988 and 1990.
