$31M to Reduce Diesel Emissions, Address Underground Petroleum Leaks
EPA has awarded $17 million in Recovery Act funds to clean up a diesel-powered ferry, cruise ships and other marine vessels, and a variety of trucks, construction equipment, and locomotives in New Jersey, New York and Puerto Rico. In addition, EPA is distributing about $14 million in Recovery Act funds to to assess and clean up underground storage tank petroleum leaks in New Jersey and New York.

EPA Proposes to Ban Boat Sewage in LI Estuary
Taking action that will improve water quality and protect wildlife and natural resources, EPA has given its preliminary approval to New York State's proposal to prohibit vessel waste discharges in Long Island's South Shore Estuary Reserve. This includes more than 110,000 acres of open water and intertidal areas from East Rockaway Inlet to Shinnecock Bay. EPA is asking the public to comment on the plan.
