P2 and SRA Grants Programs

The Pollution Prevention and Climate Change Section administers two grants programs. The Pollution Prevention (P2) Grants Program and the Source Reduction Assistance (SRA) Grants Program. The P2 and the SRA Grants Programs support projects that reduce pollution at the source. (Definition of Pollution Prevention and Source Reduction.)

Each program solicitation is issued seperately and has different eligibility and fund match requirements. Below are the general requirements for each of these grants programs. For more detailed information about each of the grants programs, please click on the link to its corresponding detailed Grants Announcement Information page.

P2 Grants Program

The mission of the P2 grants program is to help develop P2 projects that support technical assistance and promote the use of source reduction techniques by businesses. The P2 grants competition is open to state entities (e.g., state agencies, state universities, etc.) and tribes. Applicants must provide a match of 50% or more of the total project cost. Proposals must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov. (Please note that paper, e-mailed or faxed submissions will not be accepted.)

EPA Region 2 is particularly interested in promoting projects that:

  • Achieve quantifiable, measurable results in energy conservation, water conservation, reducing the generation and use of hazardous materials (e.g., toxics in products and processers), and saving money. Results need to be in one or more of the following metrics:
    • metric tons of carbon equivalents
    • gallons of water
    • pounds of hazardous materials
    • dollars
  • Address the above criteria and focus on reducing hazardous materials through P2 practices (e.g., green chemistry and engineering, green procurement, etc.). The projects should focus on manufacturing and commercial operations that impact local communities, especially in communities that:
    • bear a disproportionate share of the negative environmental consequences resulting from industrial and commercial operations, and
    • are susceptible to flooding.

EPA's national P2 Program will hold an informational question and answer webinar with potential applicants and interested stakeholders. We encourage you to attend the National Grants GoToWebinar held on March 25, 2015. Please register early.

SRA Grants Program

The SRA grants competition is open to non-profits, universities and colleges, tribes, and state/county/city governments. Applicants must provide at least 5% of the total project cost. Proposals must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov. (Please note that paper, e-mail or faxed submissions will not be accepted.)

For guidance on preparing a proposal for the SRA grants competition, please see this grant writing tutorial.

The 2015 SRA Grants RFP has not yet been announced.
