Video Conference - Creating Business Value: Green Quality Through Green Chemistry and Green Engineering In The Pharmaceutical Industry

Agenda

Three presentations were provided by video conference to an audience of industry, government and academic representatives with an interest in pharmaceutical manufacturing.  These presentations provided important insights on how to better achieve greener pharmaceutical manufacturing.  Welcoming Remarks were provided by Walter Mugdan, Director, Division of Environmental Planning and Protection, EPA Region 2.  The event was hosted and moderated by Walter Schoepf, Environmental Scientist, Pollution Prevention Team, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 2.

There were 40 participants at video conference site locations located in:  Puerto Rico, Philadelphia, Maryland and New York.  The event was organized with the additional assistance of representatives from EPA Region 3, EPA Region 2, Caribbean  Environmental Protection Division, and EPA’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics.  The overall list of the audience participants (including speakers) is provided here.

Presentations

1. C. Stewart Slater and Mariano J. Savelski, Department of Chemical Engineering, Rowan University.  The title of their presentation was “Partnerships Between Academia and the Pharmaceutical Industry to Advance Green Engineering.”

2. Sharon Austin, Green Engineering Program, Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics.  The title of her presentation was “Environmental Footprint and Opportunities in Pharmaceutical Processes.”

3. D. Christopher Watts, Standards & Technology, FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research /Office of Pharmaceutical Science.  The title of his presentation was “PAT: Opportunities for Green Quality and Control.”
