The Citizens Reuse Committee of Elkton is a local advisory group working to identify opportunities to revitalize contaminated sites in Elkton and the surrounding area. The Reuse Committee conducted a community survey to gather ideas from the community on potential reuse options for the contaminated sites. The Reuse Committee is also working with students from University of Maryland's School of Landscape Architecture to develop schematics of potential reuse options for the area. In their final report,[PDF, 107pp, 6.3M, about pdf] the committee developed reuse recommendations for all sites based on their current use, type and level of contamination present, proposed reuse plans for the site, existing infrastructure and use of surrounding properties.

Watershed Approaches

Urban Rivers Projects - The Urban Rivers Project pilots emphasize partnerships among many organizations promoting freshwater wetlands restoration and brownfields revitalization.

Schuylkill Action Network - The Schuylkill Action Network (SAN) Exit EPA Click for Disclaimer is the application of individual and specific environmental programs in a coordinated and consistent approach based on the unique needs of the watershed.

Delaware River Urban Corridor Cleanup and Restoration Planning Project

A new website designed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in cooperation with the EPA’s Land Revitalization program is now available to help in the redevelopment and revitalization of communities along the Delaware River. The website is designed to help property owners and developers, community groups and federal, state, and local governments identify contaminated sites and underutilized properties and view existing restoration projects and potential sites for restoration along the Delaware River front. It also provides an overview of coastal habitats, natural resources critical to maintaining a healthy river and sources of contamination. Contact information for technical assistance with site specific restoration projects is also available.
