Mission Statement
The mission of the Indian Program is to accomplish the protection of health
and the environment in Indian Country by promoting the comprehensive implementation
of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulatory and voluntary programs,
in partnership with the recognized Tribes.
The mission of the Tribal Government Coordinator is to provide leadership and advice to the Region 4 regulatory program
and voluntary program offices.
Program Activities
The Region 4 Indian Program assists the Indian Tribes in the region to build environmental programs and compliance capabilities and capacity. This program provides Tribal governments with information, training, and grant funding. In addition, the Indian Program addresses Indian issues and the impact of Region 4 activities on native Americans. There are representatives from each of the offices within the Region that work together to assist the Indian Program in meeting its compliance assistance and outreach obligations.
FY 2009 Funds Available for Application by Tribes in Region 4
The Region 4 Indian General Assistance Program (GAP), in response to input from our tribes, is providing this annual list of programs with 2009 funds that are now accepting applications. The programs participating in this Notice are GAP, Office of Environmental Accountability, Office of Solid Waste, Clean Air Act (103), and Public Water System Supervision. This list also includes contact names, numbers, and e-mail addresses for other programs whose funds are not yet available. It is the Region's desire to continue to increase the number of programs that have a tribal component and funds to participate in this annual Notice.
