IOWA'S MAYTAG CORPORATION RECEIVES 2004 ENERGY STAR AWARD
The Maytag Corporation based in Newton, Iowa, is one of 57 businesses
and organizations that has been recognized nationwide by EPA as a 2004
ENERGY STAR recipient. Maytag’s annual energy savings are enough
to light every house in Washington, DC for 11 days.
Jim Gulliford, EPA Region 7 administrator in Kansas City, Kan., said, “EPA is proud to recognize Maytag’s efforts to implement business practices that result in energy savings and environmental protection”.
Maytag offered $100 or more in savings on qualified clothes washers during “Double Your Savings” Campaign. In addition, Maytag initiated its own national “Star Performer” promotion on all ENERGY STAR qualified Maytag Neptune washers.
Maytag’s efforts will result in annual energy savings of nearly 8.9 million kWh. Maytag also began an educational effort to teach elementary school children about the relationship between energy efficiency and the environment. From April to July 2003, Maytag Corporation was one of the leading participants in the National ENERGY STAR Appliance Promotion.
ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce air pollution through increased energy efficiency. Today, with assistance from the Department of Energy, the program offers businesses and consumers energy efficient solutions to save energy, money and help protect the environment for future generations.
Last year alone, with the help of ENERGY STAR, Americans saved enough energy to power 20 million homes, preventing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 18 million cars while saving $9 billion on their energy bills.
EPA and DOE sponsor the ENERGY STAR awards annually to recognize energy
efficiency investments made that saved consumers money while helping the
environment. More than 8,000 organizations have become ENERGY STAR partners
and are committed to improving energy efficient products in homes and
businesses.
