EPA SELECTS CONSULTANTS TO HELP IMPROVE ENVIRONMENT IN DES MOINES

EPA Region 7 has selected two Des Moines consultants to implement a community-based project that will help address the top environmental priorities in the city.

The Agency chose a joint proposal from Barker Lemar Engineering Consultants and Mowry Strategies to conduct the EPA-funded Community-Based Environmental Priorities Project. The project is expected to start this spring and continue into mid-2005.

The project planners will survey citizens on environmental issues in the city, conduct community meetings to discuss the survey findings, and provide leadership training and support to the community to begin addressing the highest priority issues.

Des Moines City Manager Eric Anderson asked EPA to undertake such an effort. The project results will be used by EPA and its community partners to further improve the quality of the city’s environment.
