FREE CHILDREN'S HEALTH FAIR TO OFFER LEAD SCREENINGS, DEMONSTRATIONS
EPA Region 7, in coordination with John T. Thornberry Boys & Girls Club, Kansas City Missouri Health Department, and Kansas City Healthy Homes Network, is sponsoring a free Children’s Health Fair on Saturday, August 7 from Noon to 4 p.m. at 3831 E. 43rd St. (43rd & Cleveland), Kansas City, Mo.
The focus of the Children’s Health Fair is to increase awareness about children’s health issues, especially lead poisoning. The fair will offer lead and other health screenings, hands-on demonstrations, and informational booths for children and adults.
The fair is a part of the EPA’s “Kansas City Targeted Lead Campaign “(KCTLC), which has focused on educating parents, child care providers, churches and community organizations about the dangers of lead poisoning in children.
The campaign has targeted ZIP codes 64127 and 64128 in Kansas City, Mo. These ZIP codes have some of the highest number of elevated blood lead levels in children under six and the highest number of houses built before 1950 that contain lead-based paint.
