EPA ADMINISTRATOR MIKE LEAVITT RECOGNIZES SUCCESSFUL WATER QUALITY COLLABORATION
What: EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt will participate in an event at Smithville Lake in Smithville, Mo. EPA, the Missouri Corn Growers Association and other partners have been successful in improving agriculture’s water quality performance and have advocated the use of science-based and sustainable Best Management Practices (BMPs) that support environmental protection.
Who: Leavitt will be joined by U.S. Senator Kit Bond, EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Gulliford, and other dignitaries. The event will be hosted by the Missouri Corn Growers. Stakeholders include all the individual landowners and producers operating within the watersheds, the Missouri Corn Growers, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Syngenta, and Bayer Crop Science.
When: Monday, August 9, 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Where: Smithville Lake, Jerry Litton Visitors Center,
16311 DD Highway, Smithville Mo.
Directions: Take Highway 169 north to Smithville, Missouri, turn right or east on DD highway and drive approximately 2 miles and the Jerry Litton Visitors Center is on the left. Parking will be at this location.
