EPA ADMINISTRATOR MIKE LEAVITT TO PRESENT $250,000 CLEAN SCHOOL BUS GRANT TO IOWA’S BUS EMISSION EDUCATION PROJECT AT DES MOINES EVENT TUESDAY
What: EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt will present a $250,000 grant Tuesday to Iowa’s Bus Emission Education Project (BEEP). The money will help pay for pollution control devices on older school buses in Iowa and higher-blend soy diesel usage for bus fleets. The check will be presented to Dr. Troyce Fisher, Executive Director of the School Administrators of Iowa, and other BEEP partners. BEEP is a partnership of the School Administrators of Iowa, the Iowa Association of School Boards, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Department of Education, and the Iowa Pupil Transportation Association.
Who: Administrator Leavitt will be joined by Jeff Vonk, Director, Iowa Department of Natural Resources; Dr. Anita Micich, Principal, Roosevelt High School; EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Gulliford; Dr. Fisher; and other dignitaries. Director Vonk will host the event.

A school bus that runs on 100% soy diesel will be on site. Its emission reduction technology will be demonstrated by transportation experts.
