EPA AWARDS NEARLY $50,000 IN EJ GRANTS FOR KANSAS CITY AND OMAHA
EPA Region 7 has awarded two Environmental Justice research grants in Kansas City and Omaha. This money will support projects that examine issues related to a community's exposure to multiple environmental harms and risks.
The Environmental Justice Hazardous Substances Research Small Grants, provide financial assistance to eligible affected local community-based organizations. The research projects are designed to expand scientific knowledge or understanding of the subject studied.
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment of all races, cultures, and incomes with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and policies.
Projects selected were:
Bridging The Gap, Inc., Kansas City, Mo.
$24,910
To research a selected community’s perspective on litter, and its
effects on safety, health, cleanliness and economic development.
Chicano Awareness Center, Omaha, Neb.
$24,973
To complete a community research assessment by gathering data on knowledge
and awareness of lead poisoning in a predominantly Latino community in
South Omaha.
