Circulation Policies
Circulation of library materials is limited to EPA Region 8 Staff, or libraries that participate with Interlibrary Loans. An Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is one library loaning material to another library.
Interlibrary Loans
The Region 8 Library loans many of its materials to other Libraries.
- The Region 8 Library accepts electronic Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests from other libraries through OCLC (an international cataloging and lending service for libraries) or a mailed/faxed ALA (American Library Association) form.
- Technical reports, books, microfiche, and videotapes loan for four weeks. Items are renewable for an additional 2-4 weeks, if there are no other requests for the items when the request to renew is placed. The library does not loan an entire issue of a journal but will photocopy up to 30 pages of individual articles.
- Items are loaned to all geographic areas, including outside of the U.S.
The Region 8 Library will borrow materials from other libraries for Region 8 EPA staff.
- Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a means of providing EPA patrons with access to information not owned by the Region 8 Library. In turn, the Region 8 Library makes its resources available to other Libraries with reciprocal borrowing agreements. Certain items, e.g. reference materials, can not be borrowed.
- EPA staff can request that items be borrowed from another library by sending an E-mail or calling the library staff, or by completing an ILL request form.
Circulation
The following circulation periods apply to Region 8 EPA staff:
- Technical reports, microfiche, audio/video tapes, books, and journals (not the most recent edition)are loaned for two weeks.
- Books from the "new book shelf" can be loaned for one week.
(A new book is defined as a book which has been in the library for less than 3 months.) - Newspapers and journals (most recent issue) are loaned overnight or over the weekend.
- Reference books can be checked out overnight or over the weekend.
Renewal
Items which have a waiting list may not be renewed. Renewal policies for all other items are:
- Library technical reports, microfiche, audio/video tapes, books, and journals (except for current issues) are renewable for 2 weeks, up to two times.
- Books from the new book shelf are renewable for 1 week, one time only. (A new book is defined as a book which has been in the library for less than 3 months)
- Reference books, newspapers, and current issues of journals are not renewable.
