Market-Based Agricultural Incentives
The Agriculture Program supports programs that provide market-based incentives to growers to adopt integrated pest management (IPM) and agricultural stewardship practices which protect air and water quality. These programs generally include the development of standards for ecologically sound production. Certified growers are entitled to use a sustainable agriculture label in their product marketing.
Current efforts include:
- The California Tree Fruit Agreement is implementing a program to certify growers meeting standards for environmental performance.
- The California Processing Tomato Collaborative is working with the major processors and growers in the two prominent tomato growing regions in California, the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, to develop environmental standards for tomato production.
