Objectives and Targets

Significant Aspect: Air Emissions

Objective:

Reduce the environmental impact of our business travel and commuting practices.

Targets:

  1. Finalize R9 Green Transportation Policy by July 31, 2009
  2. Promote new and existing alternatives to travel (e.g. video conferencing, conference calls, webex, etc.)
  3. Replace 100% leased sedans (upon lease expiration) with ZIP cars (100% hybrid)
  4. Create grant condition(s) encouraging use of environmentally preferable practices for fleet, and travel activities

Significant Aspect: Energy Use

Objective:

Reduce EPA energy use

Targets:

  1. Maintain EZ Save for monitors
  2. Implement EZ Save for computers (with IT department)
  3. Research separate metering for the EPA floors on the building to allow accurate monitoring of usage
  4. Encourage an energy retrofit of the building through our lease negotiations
  5. Pursue Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to offset R9 energy purchases (100% Target)
  6. Pursue Energy Star certification with the building

Significant Aspect: Material Use (Paper Use)

Objective:

Reduce paper use

Targets:

  1. 25% reduction by December 31, 2008 from 2003 baseline
  2. 30% reduction by December 31, 2009 from 2003 baseline

Significant Aspect: Waste (Green Meetings)

Objective:

Full implementation of the Region 9 Green Conference and Travel Policy

Targets:

  1. Policy signed by June 30, 2009
  2. Full implementation by December 31, 2009

Significant Aspect: Waste (Purchasing Green Products)

Objective:

  1. Educate 100% of purchase card holders on green purchasing
  2. Include the purchase of green products in any new lease or lease renewal for our office space

Targets:

  1. By December 31, 2009
  2. By December 31, 2009

Significant Aspect: Waste (Recycling)

Objective:

Increase / improve office recycling and composting

Targets:

  1. Increase the rate of paper recycling by 5% per year* (comparing weight of paper purchased and recycled from prior year)
  2. 400 lbs of batteries recycled by December 31, 2009
  3. 350 lbs of Techno Trash recycled by December 31, 2009
  4. Divert 25 tons of compostable waste from landfill to compost bins or worm bins by December 31, 2008; and 30 tons by December 31, 2009
  5. Achieve FEC Silver (or better) for electronics

Once Objectives and Targets are set, Environmental Management Programs are established to achieve them.
