Department of Energy: Tribal Energy Program ![]()
The Tribal Energy Program promotes tribal energy sufficiency, economic growth and employment on tribal lands through the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The program, part of DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, provides financial and technical assistance to tribes for the evaluation and development of renewable energy resources, and provides education and training to help build the knowledge and skills essential for sustainable energy projects
U.S. Housing and Urban Development Office of Native American Programs ![]()
In 1992, Congress established the Section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee Program. The program is designed to offer homeownership and housing rehabilitation opportunities for eligible Native American individuals or families, tribes, and Tribally Designated Entities (including Indian Housing Authorities) on their native lands.
Grants
The Office of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) ensures safe, decent, and affordable housing, creates opportunities for residents' self-sufficiency and economic independence, and assures the fiscal integrity of all program participants. Information on programs and funding opportunities, specifically:
- The Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) Program provides eligible grantees with direct grants for use in developing viable Indian and Alaska Native Communities, including decent housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities, primarily for low and moderate income persons.
- The Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Program is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on Indian reservations and Indian areas. Eligible activities include housing development, assistance to housing developed under the Indian Housing Program, housing services to eligible families and individuals, crime prevention and safety, and model activities that provide creative approaches to solving affordable housing problems.
