Laboratory, Pacific Southwest (Region 9)
The Region 9 Laboratory is a full service, state-of-the-art facility specializing in chemical analysis, biological analysis and field sampling services. The laboratory provides the analytical, technical and programmatic support that is critical to accomplishing the Agency's mission of protecting human health and the environment. The lab is accredited by the National Laboratory Accreditation Program to perform analyses of a wide array of contaminants in drinking water, waste water and solid and chemical materials.
Laboratory analysis time is scheduled through the Regional Sample Control Coordinator (RSCC) before a sampling event takes place. Environmental samples are received at the laboratory for chemical and biological analysis from sites administered by EPA programs in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands, subject to U.S. law. Chain of Custody procedures are adhered to throughout the preparation, analysis and disposal process for all samples received at the lab. The analytical data is used for preliminary site assessments, site remediation, compliance monitoring, enforcement, or ecological assessment.
