R9 Laboratory SOP 1031
DAPHNID, CERIODAPHNIA DUBIA, ACUTE SURVIVAL TEST
Summary
This SOP describes methods for measuring the acute, short-term adverse effects of effluents or receiving waters on cladoceran, Ceriodaphnia dubia during a 24 or 48-hour static or staticrenewal exposure. This method has been written following the EPA method manual Methods for Measuring the Acute Toxicity of Effluents and Receiving Waters to Freshwater and Marine Organisms (Fourth Edition), EPA/600/4-90/027F.
These procedures are also suitable to freshwater containing chemicals of known or unknown dilutions. Daily observations on mortality permit the calculation of acute toxicity at other exposure periods(i.e. 24-h)
<24 hour old Ceriodaphnia dubia are exposed in a static or static renewal system to different concentrations of effluents, or receiving waters for a 24 or 48 hour period. Test results are based on survival.
