Sample Receiving in the Absence of the Sample Custodian

Summary

The purpose of this SOP is to describe receipt and storage of environmental samples at the USEPA Region 9 Laboratory by laboratory personnel in the absence of a designated sample custodian. Appropriate and consistent sample handling and documentation during sample receipt is crucial to assuring the integrity, validity, and identity of samples analyzed at the laboratory. Inadequate documentation of the condition of samples upon receipt render analytical results of unknown quality.
