CHEMICAL PRESERVATION UPON RECEIPT AT THE LABORATORY
Summary
The purpose of this SOP is to describe all activities concerning chemical preservation of environmental samples which arrive at the USEPA Region 9 Laboratory inadequately preserved. This task is performed as part of the sample receiving process. Appropriate and consistent sample handling and documentation during sample receipt and login is crucial to assuring the integrity, validity, and identity of samples analyzed at the laboratory. Mistakes during sample login will often render subsequent analyses invalid. Inadequate documentation of the condition of samples upon receipt render analytical results of unknown quality.
