R9 Laboratory SOP 461

This method is applicable for drinking, ground, surface, and saline waters, domestic and industrial wastes. This SOP is based on EPA Method 160.1.

The range of the determination is from 20 to 20,000 mg/L. The quantitation limit is 20 mg/L total dissolved solids (TDS).

A well-mixed sample aliquot is filtered through a standard glass fiber filter. The filtrate is evaporated and dried to constant weight at 180°C.

If total suspended solids is also being determined, the filtrate from that method may be used to determine total dissolved solids.
