Analysis of Total Suspended Solids

Summary

This method is applicable for drinking, ground, surface, and saline waters, domestic and industrial wastes. This SOP is based on EPA Method 160.2.

The range of the determination is from 10 to 20,000 mg/L. The quantitation limit is 10 mg/L total suspended solids (TSS).

A well-mixed sample aliquot is filtered through a tared standard glass fiber filter. The residue remaining on the filter is dried to constant weight at 103-105°C. If total dissolved solids (TDS) is also being determined, the filtrate from this method may be used for the TDS analysis.
