Analysis of Settable Solids
Summary
This method is applicable for ground, surface, and saline waters, domestic and industrial wastes. This SOP is based on EPA Method 160.5 and SM 2540F. The quantitation limit is 0.2 mL/L settleable solids (SS).
A well-mixed 1-liter sample aliquot is placed in an Imhoff cone and allowed to settle for 1 hour. The volume of settleable material is estimated from incremental gradations on the Imhoff cone.
