Refrigerator Temperature Monitoring
Summary
This SOP applies to all the refrigeration units used at the EPA Region 9 laboratory located at the Richmond Field Station of the University of California at Berkeley. This includes the cold rooms as well as standard refrigerators located throughout the laboratory. In addition, procedures for monitoring temperatures of the seawater and freshwater tanks are included. The environmental chambers in Room 308 will be monitored by the biology staff. The circular temperature records must be replaced each Monday on all the environmental chambers and the cold rooms.
The refrigerators, freezers and environmental chambers used to store samples, standards, and reagents at the EPA Region 9 laboratory are monitored each working day to assure that they are functioning properly. The aquaria and tanks used to maintain cultures of aquatic organisms at the Region 9 Laboratory are monitored each working day to assure that they are functioning properly.
The glassware technician is responsible for recording the temperature each day and taking the appropriate corrective action if the temperature is not within acceptable limits.
