R9 Laboratory SOP 850
PREPARATION AND USAGE OF STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
Summary
The purpose of this document is to inform personnel of the uniform procedure that is required when they are assigned to prepare standard operating procedures. It will ensure that the laboratory's SOPs are uniform in format and content. This SOP has been prepared in accordance with the EMMC (Environmental Monitoring Management Council) methods format as outlined in EPA QA/G-6, Guidance For The Preparation Of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) For Quality-Related Documents.
This standard operating procedure is to be followed whenever analytical and/or administrative standard operating procedures are prepared for use in the USEPA Region 9 Laboratory including FASP (Field Analytical Services Program). These guidelines apply to both EPA employees and ESAT (Environmental Services Assistance Team) contractor employees.
Standard operating procedures (SOPs) are prepared by laboratory personnel, both ESAT and EPA, who are familiar with the specific task for which the SOP is needed. SOPs are prepared for routine technical and general activity tasks performed at the Region 9 Laboratory. "Routine" tasks are those which are performed repetitively without significant deviation. SOPs are specific to the USEPA Region 9 Laboratory, contain enough detail to be performed by an entry level analyst, and are based on reference methods or required methods of the program for which the task is performed. The SOPs are prepared using the format specified in this document.
