2006 Region 9 State Fact Sheets
The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), also known as Community Right-to-Know, is a valuable source of information about toxic chemicals that are being used, manufactured, transported or released into the environment. Businesses that are subject to the law must report on their releases to the environment of over 650 toxic chemicals and chemical categories. The public can access this information and find out what pollutants are being released by specific facilities. For more information on TRI, see the national TRI Web site.
EPA's Region 9 Toxics Release Inventory program helps businesses comply with the regulations and enforces against non-compliant facilities, helps the public access Toxics Release Inventory data, and works with the State Toxics Release Inventory programs of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada.
Public Data Release
The Toxics Release Inventory 2006 Data Release was announced on February 21, 2008. Two online tools — TRI Explorer and Envirofacts Warehouse — are available to review the data.
- TRI Explorer generates reports based on facilities, geographic areas, or industry type and provides access to all TRI data reported to EPA.
- Envirofacts Warehouse provides a wealth of information from EPA's databases on Air, Chemicals, Facilities, Hazardous Waste, Risk Management Plans, Superfund, Toxic Releases (TRI) and more.
Reporting Deadline
The annual report for calendar year 2007 is due by July 1, 2008. Failure to file annual TRI Form R Reports may result in civil penalties up to $32,500 per violation.
