The funding announcement for the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund is currently open.

EPA Region 9 periodically has competitive grant announcements for protecting and restoring watersheds through comprehensive watershed protection and management approaches. Information about these programs and projects is below. In addition, please note that most water quality funds that EPA administers, including funds for watershed approaches, are provided to state water quality agencies which in turn make some of these funds available to others for a wide range of related activities (e.g., CWA Section 319 & State Revolving Fund (SRF)).

Closed Solicitation: The SF Bay Fund 2009 competitive announcement seeks to fund implementation projects that achieve significant and measurable improvement in water quality and the attainment of beneficial uses for the San Francisco Bay and its watersheds.  EPA is seeking proposals based on sound plans to achieve significant results concerning one or more of the following water quality priorities:

Proposals must include specific statements describing the environmental results in terms of well-defined "outputs" and "outcomes".  Proposals should specify, numerically, water quality and related environmental outcomes. Outcomes must be quantitative.

Previously Selected Projects: This is the second year of funding for the SF Bay Fund which is the result of a Congressional appropriation for partnership competitive grants that leverage additional funds for the protection and restoration of San Francisco Bay watersheds.  For information about the previously selected projects please refer to the SFBWQIF Progress Report (PDF)(21pp, 126K) which describes the projects that were selected in response to the EPA Region 9 2008 competitive announcement (closed).

EPA Watershed Funding

The West Coast Estuaries Initiative for the California Coast (WCEI-CA) is a focused effort under the Targeted Watershed Program to advance successful partnerships and coalitions that have completed the necessary watershed assessments and have a technically sound watershed plan ready to implement. In 2007 and 2008 EPA released announcements soliciting proposals for the California Coast and subsequently selected several projects for funding that conserve, restore and protect the water quality, habitat and environment of California coastal waters, estuaries, bays and near shore waters through comprehensive approaches to water quality management. There are no FY 2009 funds allocated to this program. For information about these projects please refer to the WCEI CA page.
