Region 1: EPA New England
Overview of Pesticides Grants
Pesticide Program and Enforcement Grants
Under FIFRA, EPA is given authority to enter into cooperative agreements with states to implement the federal pesticide regulatory requirements at the state/local level. EPA supports the cooperative agreements by providing technical and financial support to the designated State Lead Agencies. The grants support both enforcement/compliance and non-enforcement programs such as applicator certification and training, ground water protection, worker protection, and endangered species protection. Total grants for pesticide program and enforcement for the six New England States in FY'11 was over 1.9 million dollars.
For more information on pesticides enforcement grants, see EPA National's FIFRA, State and Tribal Assistance Grant Program Web site.
Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP) Grants
Each year since 1996, the Office of Pesticide Program's Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division has supported a regional grant program under the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP). The PESP program represents a cooperative effort of the EPA, USDA, and FDA to reduce the use of and risks from pesticides. Under this program EPA provides funding to support projects which promote Integrated Pest Management; impacting pesticide use and risk in agricultural settings. States and federally recognized tribes are eligible to submit project proposals for PESP grants. Individual grant awards are $50,000 or less.
