Region 1: EPA New England
Lake Champlain TMDL Schedule
Revised November 2014
Background: EPA disapproved the Vermont 2002 Lake Champlain Phosphorus TMDL on January 24, 2011 and EPA is now obligated to prepare a new TMDL. EPA is collaborating with VTDEC and other Vermont agencies on this endeavor. Below is an updated schedule for the preparation and final issuance of the TMDL.
- November 17-19, 2014: EPA will host a series of public meetings to outline the next steps in Vermont’s efforts to restore water quality in Lake Champlain. The November meetings have three major goals: EPA will provide a technical update on the phosphorus reductions Vermont needs to make, share the process and timeline for completing and implementing the plan, and outline a draft framework for monitoring progress
- Winter 2015: EPA prepares load and waste load allocations and other TMDL report components.
- Spring/Summer 2015: EPA issues final TMDL and transmits to the State to begin implementation.
