Federal Facility Enforcement
The Region I Federal Facility Program has targeted, coordinated and led numerous multi-media Federal Facility inspections since 1990. We conduct 4 to 12 inspections a year, with a majority of these inspections involving State participation. The multi-media inspections have resulted in enforcement actions from Notices of Violation to RCRA/TSCA Administrative Orders with penalties. The Region I Federal Facility Multi-Media inspection "Standard Operating Procedures" (SOP) and "Lessons Learned" documents have been attached to National Guidance for Federal Facility Inspections.
Based on the results of follow-up multi-media inspections, the Region has seen compliance rates and environmental management improvements. These positive changes include major increases in environmental staff, increases to environmental program budgets, and increases to both the number of environmental training programs conducted and the number of people trained.
