Waste Site Cleanup & Reuse in New England
East Main Street, Stratford, Conn. Emergency Removal
In May 2009 EPA learned that the owner of 340 East Main St., which contained waste material from the Raymark Superfund site, was excavating asbestos and PCB-contaminated soil without authorization. EPA hired contractors to clean the site that month. Fencing and warning signs were posted, non-vegetated soil was covered with filter fabric and clean soil, and the site road was covered with fabric and stone to minimize dust from vehicles. EPA made sure all the vehicles were decontaminated before they left the site and EPA's contractor planted several small bushes provided by the property owner. The Conn. Department of Environmental Protection and Raymark addressed the followup work at this site.
