Waste Site Cleanup & Reuse in New England
Energy North Mobil Station
EPA responded to a call on Monday, March 9, 2009, that more than 1,500 gallons of diesel oil had leaked from a Mobile gas station at 38 Elm St in Milford, NH. The oil was released from piping associated with a 20,000- gallon above ground storage tank at the Snack Corner Mobil. The station had had problems with the leak since Thursday, and the automatic discharge alarm had failed. The diesel flowed into a granite culvert and discharged into the Souhegan River. A sheen was reported up to 10 miles downstream. The Souhegan River flows into the Merrimack River which then flows into Massachusetts. The state Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the potential for the release to reach Massachusetts. A Notice of Federal Interest was given to the station owner and a follow up inspection was conducted by EPA.
