Waste Site Cleanup & Reuse in New England

Wilder Thermometer Factory Site

Wilder Thermometer Factory Site

This vacant site includes about an acre of wooded property between Hunt Road and the Contoocook River in Peterborough, NH. Owned by the town of Peterborough, the site includes the former mill property, two residential properties ( 129 Hunt Road and 133 Hunt Road), as well as a right of way that runs through the residential property at 133 Hunt Road. On June 18, 2008 EPA NH department of Environmental Services and an EPA contractor investigated the site, taking four soil samples. The site investigation confirmed the presence of elevated mercury levels in soils. It appeared that the contamination extended onto two residential properties, including the town-owned right-of-way. A cleanup was recommended Sept. 2, 2008.
