			<abstract>This layer is the designated sole source aquifers of New York and New Jersey. A Sole Source Aquifer, is an aquifer that supplies 50% or more of the drinking water for a given area where there are no reasonably available alternative sources should the aquifer become contaminated.</abstract>
			<purpose>The purpose of designation of SSA is to protect an area's ground water resource by requiring U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) review of any proposed projects within the designated area that are receiving federal financial assistance. All proposed projects receiving federal funds are subject to review to ensure they do not endanger the water source.</purpose>
			<supplinf>The region 2 Sole Source Aquifers are digitized from the paper copies of the SSA's with a boundary of USGS 7.5 Minute quadrangle maps.  Detail information about each designated sole source aquifer can be found at http://www.epa.gov/region02/water/aquifer/index.html.
