U.S. - Canada Niagara River Toxics Management Plan
The Niagara River Toxic Management Plan (NRTMP) is a binational effort led by EPA Region 2, NYSDEC, Environment Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment to reduce inputs of toxic chemicals to the Niagara River from hazardous waste sites located along the river. The NRTMP has issued annual reports on progress in controlling contaminant releases since 1989.
Niagara River Area of Concern (AOC)
The U.S. Niagara River AOC addresses a broad range of physical, chemical and biological issues on the U.S. side of the Niagara River. The Niagara River Remedial Action Plan, completed September 1994, describes the environmental problems in the AOC and lays out a strategy for restoring the river. A Niagara River AOC Status Report update was published June 2000.
