Highlights of the Environmental Science Center
Consolidates: EPA Region III Annapolis facilities and the Office for Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances Beltsville and Cincinatti laboratories (six leased facilities into one government owned site).
Features: include 70 laboratories (Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology), a Library, Conference rooms and a video teleconferencing center, and individual team meeting rooms. The center has telecommunications and computer operations; flexible office space for 150 employees from 10 federal, state, local and contractor organizations; energy efficient in lighting, heating, and air conditioning; and natural landscaping. The center is designed to accommodate a 25 percent expansion with out needing to replace major mechanical components such as boilers and chillers.
The environmental Science Center supports enforcement and monitoring for Region III and the Office of Pesticides Programs.
Analytical capabilities include chemistry (organic, inorganic, metals) analyses, biology, microbiology, and other scientific activities that further the mission and goals of the agency.
