SESD Mission:
EPA has the vital mission of protecting human health and the environment.
SESD's mission is providing quality science support for congressional mandates
and initiatives, and partnerships with academia, the states, locals, and tribal nations.

SESD Vision:
To develop innovative technologies, preserve scientific excellence
in environmental assessments, and implement ecosystem management.

Environmental Management System (EMS) Policy
The Science and Ecosystem Support Division is committed to EMS and supports this program in a variety of ways that go beyond fulfilling regulatory requirements. We have a very aggressive recycling program that includes batteries, Styrofoam, paper, boxes, plastics, metals, and techno trash. We compost food waste on-site that averages 6.6 Kg of material per day and recycle organic solvents for re-use. One of our biggest successes is a chemical and labware adoption program where we donate unwanted items to regional schools and higher education institutions. SESD employees embrace the philosophy of EMS and are dedicated to making it a top-notch program.
