Burra Burra Creek Roast Yard
Description: A roast yard was once located in this area adjacent to the
McPherson Branch of Burra Burra Creek. This is now the location of the
wetlands demonstration project, which can be seen from the Ducktown Museum
overlook. The barren landscape here is a reminder of the thousands of eroded
acres that burdened area creeks and the Ocoee River with heavy sediment
loads for many years. Though revegetation work has brought the erosion
problem largely under control, aquatic life in the creeks and river must
overcome habitat loss and water quality impacts from historic sediment
deposits that remain.
