Copper Basin Mining District Historic Photographs
Carroll Hill
Description: Carroll Hill is a large pile of granulated slag located between
Davis Mill Creek and Highway 68. Some of this slag has been reprocessed
and sold for use as roofing granules or sand blasting agent. Ore that was
mined in Copper Basin, and many of the associated processing wastes that
remain, contain metal sulfide compounds that oxidize when exposed to the
air. These oxidized sulfates produce acid drainage that can degrade surface
water quality.
