Background
The Celotex site was used for making, storing and selling asphalt roofing products. In 1989, Illinois EPA received citizen complaints about coal tar present on their property due to Celotex. Illinois EPA found pollution at the site. (more...) (en español)

The Board of Commissioners of the Chicago Park District is advancing plans to develop the former Celotex Superfund site into a park facility. It recently authorized entering into a contract with an architecture firm for park improvements in Park 553 at 2800 S. Sacramento Ave in the Little Village neighborhood. Public Meetings
- EPA accepted comments on the proposed Prospective Purchaser Agreement (PPA) for the Celotex Superfund Site through November 12, 2008.
- EPA held a public meeting November 9, 2004, to explain its recommended cleanup plan, answer questions, and accept comments. The comments period ran from October 26 to November 26, 2004.
