2008 Update

EPA Reviewing Ameren Central Illinois Public Service Co. Superfund Site

EPA, in consultation with Illinois EPA, is reviewing the Ameren Central Illinois Public Service Co. Superfund site to ensure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. The Superfund law requires reviews at least every five years at sites where the cleanup is complete but waste remains managed on-site.

EPA will evaluate site documents, results of periodic inspections and ground-water testing. Should we find any areas of potential concern, we will work with the companies responsible for the cleanup to fix them. EPA will issue a report on the five-year review by March 15, 2009. This is the third five-year review for this site.

EPA encourages public comment. Written comments should be postmarked no later than September 15, 2008.
