Hubbell/Tamarack City Deletion

EPA Intends to Delete the Hubbell/Tamarack City Parcel of the Torch Lake Superfund Site from the NPL

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants you to know it intends to delete one part of the Torch Lake Superfund site from the National Priorities List, the roster of the nation's most polluted places. EPA plans to remove from the list the Hubbell/Tamarack City parcel, known as Operable Unit One, in Houghton County. EPA and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality agree that they have taken all the appropriate actions spelled out in a federal law called the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and
Liability Act (CERCLA). Removing the Hubbell/Tamarack City unit from the NPL, however, will not prevent EPA from taking any future actions there if needed under the Superfund law.

Notice of EPA's plan to delete this unit from the list is published in the Jan. 29 edition of the Federal Register. EPA invites your comments on this matter.

The deadline for comments was Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004. We will consider all comments, and if necessary will delay finalizing this proposed action. We will address all appropriate public comments at the time the action is made final.
