Construction of Two Deep Hazardous Waste Injection Wells in Romulus, Michigan by Environmental Disposal Systems, Inc.

What: An availability session with representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [Chicago Office], Underground Injection Control Branch and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Geological Survey Division
When: Wednesday, June 13, 2001 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: Romulus Senior High School

Why:
  • These Federal and State representatives want to listen and respond to any questions you may have about the upcoming construction of two new hazardous waste underground injection wells in Romulus, Michigan by Environmental Disposal Systems, Inc. (EDS). The tentative plan by EDS is to start construction of these two new wells in July 2001. EDS representatives will also be available to answer questions if necessary.
  • EPA runs the Federal deep injection well program in Michigan and wants to keep local Romulus residents informed of the decision-making steps being taken by the EPA regarding the construction of these wells; and,
  • EPA wants to explain to local residents the procedural steps in the "land ban petition review process" and when EPA expects to publish its proposed decision to approve or deny EDS's petition request for the disposal of hazardous wastes into the injection wells.
