Cancellation of FOIA Requests
The requestor may elect to cancel/withdraw his/her request because the information is no longer needed, or because documents requested are not available from U.S. EPA. In addition, FOIA requests can be cancelled by the Agency for the following reasons:
- Clarification: the Specialist is unable to determine the information
requested ;
- Unable to deliver: an incomplete or incorrect address was provided
by the requestor;
- Information is no longer needed: contact received from the
requestor advising us that the information is no longer needed;
- No records available: after a thorough search the Specialist
has determined there are no records pertaining to the request; and/or
- Costs: requestor is unable or unwilling to pay the applicable fees.
**NOTE: It should be noted that every effort should be made to contact
the requestor before a request is cancelled by the Agency. Cancellations
can be done by telephone or in writing. Should you not be able to reach
the requestor or he/she fails to respond within a reasonable time (e.g.,
10 to 14 days), the Specialist may cancel the request.
