EPA addresses New Mexico regional haze

On February 15, 2013, the EPA, the New Mexico Environmental Department and Public Service Company of New Mexico reached an agreement on a path forward to reach an alternative plan to address pollution control requirements for the San Juan Generating Station under the Clean Air Act for regional haze. This pathway calls for the retirement of two units at the 1,800-MW coal-fired San Juan Generating Station near Farmington by the end of 2017. The remaining two units will be retrofitted with selective non-catalytic reduction technology in 2016. The New Mexico Environment Department is currently developing a revised State Implementation Plan in accordance with the terms and schedule provided in the Term Sheet and its attached timeline.
