About the Partnership
As part of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities to provide excellence in education and to train students, particularly minorities, in scientific and engineering fields, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between EPA and Lincoln University on February 24, 1998.
Lincoln University provides the required institutional framework under the White House Initiative to address the problem of under-representation of African Americans in scientific, engineering, finance, mathematics, information technologies (i.e., Geographical Information Systems) and Environmental Protection Specialist fields, in addition to the participation of these minorities in the nation's environmental programs.
The partnership between EPA and Lincoln University provides a mechanism for the development of joint activities and programs which will lead to the strengthening and growth of mutually beneficial educational, scientific and technical programs. Some of these activities include joint research projects, student internships at EPA facilities, grant assistance, and outreach programs.
